American Beauty

Hi all,

I want to share my 2nd finished quilt for the year....yay! And this one has just been waiting on binding for the last couple of months.

This was a block of the month quilt that I did through my local patchwork shop, Sew This and That. It is a Marti Michell design which uses her awesome templates. We started in February of 2012. It took about 18 months to make the finished top and then I was waiting for some fabric for the backing for a while. Then I had Jane (quilt jane) quilt it for me on her longarm.

This is a monster of a quilt, I think it is the biggest I have ever made. It is approx 110" x 95". Huge!

I used mostly Sandi Henderson's Secret Garden fabric with coordinating solids and prints.

Bye for now, Jess :)

Clowns Choice

Hi all,

What a funny name for a quilt, right? I am not very good at naming things.

I have had one of my quilts published in the latest Quilters Companion magazine. Yay!

The name come from the traditional block that the quilt is based on. I used EQ7 to draw up the block and play around with the design layout. I made a couple of test blocks to make sure the size of the blocks were ok before I made the whole quilt.

I quilted it on a longarm machine that I hired from Bee Creative on the Sunshine Coast. I would so love to have my own longarm setup one day!

The fabric I used is the Saltwater range by Tula Pink and virtually a whole bolt of Bella White. And it is a big 90" square!

Bye for now, Jess :)

First quilt for the year!

Hi,

I have finally finished a quilt! Yay! Actually I have finishes two this week, I finished binding another one last night but I will tell you about that one in my next post.

So this quilt is not on my WIP list, I only started it about 2 weeks ago and finished it on Sunday. Yay for a quick finish! I followed a pattern, to a certain extent....I changed the borders, but using someone else's pattern makes it so much quicker! It is from the Stop, Drop and Roll booklet.

I made this quilt for a friend whose family is moving away this weekend, so I had a deadline which is always motivational. We had a girls lunch today to give her a farewell party and it was really nice. They are moving very close to the beach and they are huge beach lovers so my fabric choice was an easy decision - Lucy's Crab Shack by Sweetwater.

I used my sister in laws short arm quilting set up to quilt this quilt. I had no basting pins left and I wanted to get it quilted in a day. I just did a stipple over the whole top except for the flowers.

I also had all of the fabric for this quilt in my stash...bonus! I used the prettiest stripe (Heather Bailey) for the binding!

Bye for now, Jess :)

Can I have a happy fail?

Hi all,

I know my updates never line up with the official post by Jess @ The Elven Garden (I haven't figured out how to put in links yet), where I could link up and all but time just seems to not exist in my world at the moment. Maybe I'm not worried because I have been a bit naughty lately and I don't really feel bad about it!

I bought some Tula Pink fabric that is an older range and I wanted to snap some up while I hade the chance. I had been looking for the cream print a while ago and it is hard to find so I got as much as I could, which ended up being half the bolt as another lady wanted it too so we split it in half.

I bought some fat eights of Sweetwater fabric, also an older range, "Lucy's Crab Shack". Which was an absolute bargain....and there was text fabric! What more needs to be said!

And then yesterday I found out I won a charm pack through a giveaway on Instagram. Really one charm pack is not enough to make a good size quilt so I got them to throw in another one.

To top it all off I still have not finished anything off my WIP list....I actually started another quilt instead!

I have been working on the churn dash border of the Midnight at the Oasis quilt - 52 tiny blocks gets a little boring and then other things start getting done instead. Need to give myself a push to get these done.

I am slowly getting the quilting done on the cheaters Bargello quilt.

I found out a good friend is moving away so I am frantically making a quilt for her. She loves the beach so I pulled out my Lucy's Crab Shack stash.

And turned it into a quilt.
Needing flowers and final border

I plan on quilting this today using my sister in laws short arm quilting machine.

Bye for now, Jess :)
