A quick quilt

Hi,

I need to blog about this quilt before I forget all the details.

On day we got a phone call to inform us that one of our good friends had fallen and broke a few ribs and was feeling pretty bad.

Fortunately we were on school holidays and I didn't have any other real sewing commitments so I came up with a fabric pull and a pattern and got busy.

The fabric is half a jelly roll of Carolyn Friedlander's Doe collection, a black tone on tone and Bella grey. The pattern is Traffic by Jaybird Quilts in lap size.

Because of the way this quilt is pieced it went together really quickly.

I basted this one on the floor because I was in a hurry, sometimes I go and use my mums huge cutting table but I didn't really have time for that this time.

The whole time I am making a quilt I am trying to decide how I am going to quilt it. I wanted it fairly simple. It still seemed to need something more though, so I added in free form zigzags to finish it off.

I posted it to our friends, who live a couple of hours away, and heard that there may have been a few tears shed upon opening it. It gives me a real thrill to give people surprises!

This quilt took a week to make. It was super fast, one of my quickest finishes ever I think. And I loved every minute of it!

Make it sew, Jess

A Mini AMH feather quilt

Hi all,

The Bloggers Quilt Festival is on over at Amy's Creative Side again. So I entering my Mini AMH feathers quilt into the Mini a Quilt category.

I made this quilt for a Cotton and Steel themed mini quilt swap that happened on Instagram.

I used a solid white for the back ground and a shot cotton grey for the feather spines.

I love how quilting completely changes the look of a quilt! It also stresses me out a little as I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing and I might not like the end result...but it usually works out ok.

Bye for now, Jess

A modern table runner

Hi all,

The bloggers quilt festival is happening once again over at Amy's Creative Side. So I thought I might enter a quilt or two.

I'm entering this one into the small quilts category. It is basically a table runner that I designed myself to showcase some fantastic fabrics.

It has some Tula Pink, Cotton and Steel and Sandi Henderson fabric. They all blend together rather nicely.

See you soon, Jess

Finished in a day...Not!

I finished this quilt a couple of weeks ago....only a few years after starting it!

Ironically I made this quilt because I wanted to see if I could make a quilt in a day. I made the top in a day! I used the free Lark Quilt pattern by Amy Butler, I changed it slightly so I could use a layer cake and not have any wastage.

I also wanted to use what was in my stash, in hindsight I should have spent a few dollars to get a navy solid rather than using the print but I'm not changing that now.

It stayed in my container of finished tops for a long until I dug it out and got it professionally quilted by Fiona aka the quilting fairy. She did such a wonderful job, I totally love the feathers and the block pattern she quilted on the navy.

I am going to try to not let quilts take so long to finish from now on....ok even I know that is probably not really going to work out!

Bye for now, Jess
