Another month gone

Hi all,

So what have I been doing this month? I can't believe how quickly it has flown by! Looking back through my photos I realize that I have been busier than I thought ....I will try to get back into blogging more regularly, maybe that will help my bloggy mojo to kick in. I have felt a little flat about blogging for the last couple of months but anyway let's get on with the show shall we?!

I got to pattern test the awesome wallet pattern by Erin from Dog Under My Desk. I really loved making this and I would highly recommend the pattern when it is available!

My local patchwork shop Sew This and That have a monthly embroidery club that I have signed up for this year, I have "inherited" a lovely embroidery machine and want to learn how to operate her. This month we made 'Foot Flickers' to keep our feet organised....

And I had a little practice with a design from Urban Threads.

I also caught up with my blocks for the Ausmod Bee that I am in. There was some AMH feathers for November (yes November).

And some butterfly blocks for January.

What else... Oh and I made another book bag for school.

I think that is enough for now!

See you soon, Jess

Bee Blocks and my turn!

Hi all,

I got a little behind in my bee blocks so I have a couple of months to share….

May bee blocks

These are the May blocks for Kirsten. Some more Anna Maria Horner feathers.

June bee block 1

The star blocks are for the June Queen Bee, who is Julie. I was quicker with these ones! This one is called Starburst, a block from Quiltmaker's 100 blocks Magazine Vol. 3.

June bee block 2

This one is Nova, a paper pieced block from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Magazine Vol. 2. Bit miffed at the angle of my fussy cut centre but I didn’t notice that it wasn’t going to be straight, I really should pay more attention!

Next month, July, is my turn to be Queen Bee! I have been thinking about what block to use for ages, I thought about the AMH feathers but that has been done twice already, I considered the Improv Chevron block but in the end I have decided to go with the Basketweave Braid Star block.

My bee blocks for myself in July

These are two that I made up so I could figure out the fabric requirements. I am using two layer cakes, Reunion and Hometown, both from Sweetwater and I think they mix together really well.

bee block prep

Here are my strips all cut….although it is a paper pieced block the fabrics are pretty much cut to size so they shouldn’t be too hard to put together. I won’t post these out for a couple of weeks but I wanted to get it done now so I can focus on some other things for the rest of the month.

This, that and a handbag!

Hi guys,

I have had an exciting week that has ended with me not being able to talk :( Shall I start at the beginning?

We have had a bit a of a cold go through our house and I thought I was over it, apart from a cough which always stays with me for a long time. So, on Friday Mum and I took a trip to Ikea. It was awesome! I have been once before but it was mums first time. Got some chairs and bits and pieces but I don’t have any photos to share yet.

Then we headed to DFO for a late lunch and a look around. The foodcourt has an open roof and we got frozen while we ate. Not the best for my chest!

Mad quilters loot

Time for a picture?

The next day was Saturday. We had planned to go to the Mad Quilters Gathering and I had the opportunity to meet a couple of the Ausmod bee girls soooo I pushed myself and went. Maybe it was a bad decision but I was feeling okay apart from the voice packing it in and I really had a great time.

I couldn’t resist the loot that is in the above picture. The fat quarter pack is Cruiser Blvd from Riley Blake, such great boy fabric! Lucky I’m not on a fabric diet LOL

And I did get to met Catherine and Kirsten. It is fantastic when you get to met people that you know through blogging and bees! I was so happy to be able to meet both of you!

The other high-light was getting to play on a HQ Avanti 18” quilting machine. It was a dream to use, my stippling was so fine and I could even do flowers and leaves! I found out that you can hire the machine in the shop for a day and quilt your own quilt….I am really thinking about doing that!

Anyway, on the way home mum said that my voice was getting worse and by the next day I couldn’t talk at all. So I have been to the GP and he gave me antibiotics for a chest infection and I am feeling a bit better but still not able to talk much. But I did feel like doing a little bit of sewing today….

Tulip purse 2 front

I made another one of the Tulip Bags. This time I used Simple Life and Red Riding Hood, they work together perfectly!

Tulip purse 2 button

I love the button! I can never quite tell if the design is going to be centred or not, but I think this worked out beautifully!

Tulip purse 2 inside

And a cute little pocket on the inside! It is a gift for little girl so she should like it, hopefully.

Well, I have been a bit chatty today, thank you to anyone who has kept reading!

Bee blocks and ponderings…

Hi all,

I am still here, just doing a lot of thinking and not a lot of sewing! Thinking or pondering really is counterproductive!

I did get these bee blocks made though -

Bee block 1 for April

This is called Evening Star. A great paper pieced block!

Bee block 2 for April

This one is Lucky Pieces. Both are for Bronwyn who was queen bee for March in the Ausmod Bee.

And I have finished another block for the Afternoon Delight quilt. It only took a month, need to get back into these!

Afternoon Delight block 7

And what have I been thinking about? Well, I am wondering if I have time to make a clutch for the engagement party this weekend – but I fear I have wasted too much time thinking about it!

I have been thinking about how to rearrange my sewing space and fit it all in, I really need to pull everything out and sort it out. But that will be a huge task, so will have to wait until I have more time LOL

I am worrying about how to help my kids so they don’t fall behind at school. My grade two-er is struggling to keep up, he is supposed to be getting some extra support but until that happens I wonder what I can do to help.

Oh, the worries of being a creative mum!

On a side note – I feel awesome today! Smokin’ hot LOL I had my hair done this morning and it is the best haircut and colour I have had in years. And she straightened it for me, something I have never done before and I love, love, love it! Tomorrow I am going to buy one of those things!

Bee block bonanza!

Hi All,

Even though I have tried to cut down on commitments this year there was one bee I could not resist – the AusMod Bee. It was actually a bit hard to get into this bee but after a couple of blogging buddies vouched for me I was accepted!

I didn’t get accepted until March and the bee has been going since January, and my month was going to be April 2014….a long way away! But one of the girls has pulled out because of family commitments so I have been bumped up to July, yay!

But, along with that came all the blocks that hadn’t been completed by the one leaving, not that I mind really because I got to make some great blocks!

Bee block practice January AMH feather

This is my practice block for Lorena who was Queen Bee for January, it is Anna Maria Horner’s Feather quilt pattern.

bee blocks for Lorena January pt1

Each block has 2 feathers.

bee blocks for Lorena January pt2

Next up was some paper pieced blocks for Jane who was Queen Bee for February.

Bee blocks for Jane February

These went together really easily. You should check out Jane’s quilt - partly together here. It is going to look great!

And today I finished Charlotte’s (Queen Bee for March) blocks.

Bee blocks for March

The brief was 12” traditional blocks made modern. So I chose Weathervane, this was in the QAL last year and the other block is called Aunt Sukey’s Choice or Puss n’ Boots. Both blocks I drew up on EQ7 based on designs from a 70’s Patchwork book.

I have the fabric here for the April blocks but there is no hurry on those yet….so now I can focus on some other things!!!
