Wonky Star Space Quilt

Hi all,

The finish along for this quarter is wrapping up and I will do a wrap up post but I thought this quilt deserved a post all of its own!

wonky star space quilt front

Most of the blocks in this quilt were made by the girls in the Bee In Oz group that happened back in 2011, I filled it out with a few blocks of my own and the screen printed rocket.

wonky star space quilt rocket

The rocket is one that I designed and screen printed with the direction of my sister in law. The FMQ around the rocket is what has kept this baby in the cupboard all year, very sad I know.

This is one of my fav blocks, I think there is a tutorial for it on the net somewhere. It is a 12” block so those little stars are just that, little!

Another fav is this star in a star block. The little astronaut guy is so cute and that fabric is my fav space fabric! One of those lucky finds, I have never seen it again but fortunately I got enough for the border.

wonky star space quilt back

The back incorporates some left over fabric and the signature squares that I asked the girls to sign for me.

It really makes the quilt that much more special!

Here it is on my littlest boys bed, where it was going to stay but apparently it is scary….so it has found a home on my oldest boys bed!

Quilt stats

Size – 88” x 64”
Fabric – Lots of starry night type fabric for the background and a lot of Kaffe Fassett and bright prints for the stars.
Pattern – no set pattern just wonky stars in different sizes.
Blocks made by Bee in Oz girls and myself, put together and quilted by me.
Started March 2011 and finished June 2013.

OPAM and Spaceships!

I have completed my 1st OPAM project - I very quickly whipped up a double-sided/reversible bag for a friends little girl. She was having a baby shower this morning but didn't want anything for the new baby, I felt strange going empty handed so I made this bag using some panels from my stash.

Over the last few weeks I have also been doing some more screen-printing with my sister in law. I took a couple of weeks to draw up a spaceship and this is how it turned out.....

We are also half way through printing the spaceships onto some fabric that I dyed. So I will keep you posted on how they turn out.
I wanted to do the spaceship for a reason - I love this book.....

Material Obsession is a fantastic book, so inspiring and I would love to make probably at least half a dozen quilts out of it...."patience" I tell myself - all in good time!
Anyway, there is a quilt in there called Rocket Man (I think). It has a rocket panel in it, I'm going to try to make this quilt but I'll have to make it bigger as the pattern is cot size and I'd prefer a single bed size. So this is on my to-do list for this year!

Now, my sign off for this year is "don't worry be happy", I know this is often a hard thing to do because there is so many awful things going on at the moment. Particularly in Haiti, so check out this Etsy store called Craft Hope all proceeds go to Doctors without Borders in Haiti. And this is the great blog Ric Rac that I found out about it from.

So, try not to worry too much and be happy,
Jess

Anniversary cushion!

After trying for a few weeks to decide what to make for my parents 34th (I think) Anniversary, this is what I finally came up with.....

Ha Ha, I am a tease! Just wanted to give you a close up of my screen printing efforts.
Here is a full picture....

It is a cushion! Sorry if the photo isn't very good, it was a bit dark when I took it.
The purple and aqua/teal fabrics are hand dyed by my sister in-law, who I have mentioned before. The strips are made from a fabric I have had in my stash for quite a while, it is good when you don't have to buy material for every project.

So, Happy Anniversary Mum and Dad!

Now I had better go and wave my house-cleaning wand while my littlest fellow is asleep!

Bye for now, Jess

Screen printed cars quilt

So I have finally put together the quilt top that has been hogging my design wall for the last couple of months. Has it really been that long?!? I'd say so...

The little cars are designed and screen printed by my sister-in-law Debbie, who is starting up her own business doing screen printing and dyeing. The outside border is also her dyed fabric.
The cars are so cute, really happy looking!

This was achieved despite the heat today, 36'C, with no air-con in my house, I was really working in my own little sweat-shop!

Now to the next thing on my list - a present for my folks anniversary! I only have about a week, plus I desperately need to do some work on my JC Quilt-along blocks.

Stay cool, Jessica!
