Tula and Jaybird Quilts mini swap

Hi all,

If you are on Instagram you may have heard about this by now, Kelly (@thequiltmachine), Abby (@abby_colorbarquilts) and I are hosting a mini quilt swap inspired by the gorgeous combination of Tula Pink fabric and Jaybird Quilts mini patterns.

For all the details head over to Kelly's blog where she has all the info there for you. But just a heads up - sign ups start on Friday! And we are limiting the swap to 500 participants so get in quick!

In the meantime, here is a Tula Pink/Jaybird Quilts collaboration that I made for a mini quilt swap earlier this year.

And this one, using the same pattern but made the full length now lives on my dining table.

I hope you will join us!

Make it sew, Jess

Tula Pink + a Jaybird Quilts pattern = Fabulous!

Hi all,

Recently I participated in a swap on Instagram that was based on Tula Pink fabric, hence the name #aussietulapinkswap !

I learned my partner liked the Saltwater and Neptune ranges. And one of the pattern designers she liked was Jaybird Quilts.

So I did a shortened version of the Seaside table runner pattern.

Extras are usually included so I made a Curvy Clutch, pattern by Pink Door Fabrics. I also included a fat 1/4 or Neptune fabric, some chocolates and stationery bits n bobs.

I really loved making both of these! So much so that I have already made myself a full length table runner from the Seaside pattern.

I used Tula Pink fabric for this one too but I used the newer Moonshine range and went with my fav scrappy low volume background.

I quilted them both the same too! When you are on a good thing....

And this is what I received from my partner -

I love the mini and the contrasting binding just makes it pop! And the extra fabric and little sewing pouch were a lovely addition!

Til next time, Jess :)

Oz mini quilt swap

This year I decided to join in on a few swaps. This week the #igminioz swap is wrapping up. The swap was basically a mini quilt swap for Aussies on Instagram.

I am so thrilled with the things I received from Luelle (@strange_stitches) . She made me the most beautiful mini quilt based on an image from a Tula Pink print. The quilting is stunning! I just love looking at it!

I am a huge Star Trek fan so she made this mug rug size mini which reflects that perfectly! I am going to hang it up with some of my other mini's.

The other little extras are all favourites of mine too - mini charms of Sweetwater ranges, a spool of purple Aurifil thread and a special little pack of mini charms.

For my partner Kate (@jemimaquilts) I made a mini using a Thimble Blossom pattern called Mini Puddle Jumping. I used Bonnie and Camille fabric. I can't believe I forgot to take a photo of the mini quilt before I sent it! So I am using a screen shot of the picture Kate took.

I also made a Mini Sew Together bag using the same fabrics. The full size Sew Together bag is a pattern by Sew Demented and the mini conversion is done by Elizabeth at OPquilt.com.

And I made Kate's little guy a book cushion. The space fabric has parts that glow in the dark. The embroidery design is from Urban Threads and is such a fun design.

This has been such a fun swap!

Bye for now, Jess

Down Under Doll Quilt Swap

Hi everyone,

I can’t believe how long it has been since I blogged…a few weeks! They have been very busy weeks, the end of the school year and kindy, sob sob. My boys are growing up. So we are now in school holidays for the next 6 weeks and I don’t really expect to get too much sewing done but a little bit would be nice.

Anyway, I forgot to show you the quilts that I sent and received from the DUDQS. This is the quilt I received from Merran.

DUDQS recieved

I love it! And the little basket with bikes on it is awesome! Not to mention the little fox panel that Cat & Vee print – too cute!

This is the mini that I made for Anorina.

DUDQS
The appliqued centre is a block from the Aunt Millie’s Garden pattern by Piece O’ Cake Designs. I really want to make the whole quilt one day!

DUDQS quilting

My attempt at McTavishing…I am still learning but I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

DUDQS extras

I also knew that Anorina loved owls so I made her a pouch too.

So I’m not sure how vocal I’ll be here for the next couple of months with the holidays and new school year but we shall see…I will be posting on Instagram though if you care to follow me over there!

By for now, Jess

Swaps and Bees

Hi all,

So far this year I have only joined in on one swap and now I have joined a bee…

This is the results of the Name Game Swap -

This is the quilt I made for my partner who blogs at Piecing Light. I got the plus design from the Modern Blocks book and just extended it to the size I wanted.

DSCF2264

The letters are raw edge applique and the font is my new fav “Cafe Rojo”. I used it on the eyechart mini too.

This is the quilt I got -

Made for me by Marissa in Florida USA – no blog that I know of. Very exciting getting a parcel from overseas!

I joined a Bee with a facebook Aussie quilting group, there are a few girls I already know (via blogging) so I already feel at home!

This dresden plate is for Jane. Jane is going to put the plates on the backing fabric herself and finish the middle circle too! I can’t wait to see this quilt finished!

I have a few other things to show you but I am waiting for the rain to go away so I can get some decent photos!

Fobs and Facebook

Hi all,

I have finished my quilt for the Name Game Swap….I think I will give you a little sneaky peek!

DSCF2270

I gotta say I love how the binding looks!

Yesterday I was getting ready to do some sewing on a quilt I am making for the Modern Mini Challenge and realised I didn’t have the right coloured thread soooo I made these instead -

DSCF2273

Aren’t the elephants the cutest?!

DSCF2275

I joined Facebook last week, not sure weather that deserves a “yay” yet….are you on? My link is over there on the right somewhere please come and check me out!

The best things about facebook so far are – 1) The groups, I have joined a couple of quilting related ones. And 2) Pinterest….I was devastated (Sadly this is true) when I tried to join Pinterest a month ago and found out you had to be on facebook.

The worst things about facebook so far are – 1) it is really confusing, and I don’t class myself as technologically challenged but I am finding it really frustrating so I am borrowing a couple of books from the library (my favourite place). And 2) I think I am spending more time on the computer than what is probably necessary.

So the jury is still out…if you are on facebook how do you find it?

Lastly, my boys went “flower hunting” yesterday and gave me this little arrangement!

Finally some sewing

Hi all,

After a week of not even wanting to look at my sewing things I finally sat down and did something.

I worked on the quilt for my partner in the Name Game Swap…

Just a sneak peek in case my partner is looking! I am still deciding how to do the name…applique, stitchery, faux applique…I don’t know.

TP needed a library bag for school so I whipped up one today for him.

He picked the fabric out a while ago and I was waiting to use it in something just for him.

The pocket should have been deeper but I was trying to keep the robots upright….Anyway he says he hates it, maybe he will feel differently tomorrow.

A great mail day!

Hi guys,

I feel very spoiled today! It is not everyday that there are 4 parcels in my letterbox and 2 of them from overseas!

I have been involved in a number of swaps and now I am reaping the rewards!

img_3374
I participated in Another Little Quilt Swap 5 this year, my little quilt went off to Vreni. I got this quilt today….

img_3378
It came all the way from Pam in the UK. It is called “Memories Quilt” because it is made with fabric from Pam’s daughters dresses and the buttons are off a liberty bodice worn by Pam. And it is vintage, made 43 years ago!  I love that it encompasses so much meaning!

I also did a little swap with Janet.

img_3375
I received this piece of loveliness today. It is gorgeous! I love Janet’s work and I feel privileged to own a piece of her quilting! And a gorgeous piece of fabric was wrapped around it!
I will show you the quilt I made for Janet when it arrives at the other end.

I also tried my hand at a fabric swap through Flickr. I swapped a layer cake. I swapped a Spirit for a Plume! It is gorgeous, I love the feathers! You can see it in the first picture!

I have also started getting back blocks from the girls in the quilting bee I am in, I will show them later too!
