Wednesday again!

Hi all,

I can’t believe it is that time of the week again! So what have I been working on? not much!

Block 2 - Seam Ripper

I made block 2 of the And Sew On BOM, it is called Seam Ripper for obvious reasons! I deliberately put one of the fabrics the wrong side up…that is for the unpicker to work on!

the joys fixed

I mended the block that my little helper did some work on LOL I think once the quilt is together no one will notice my seam in the corner. To me will be a reminder of my little fella!

Bee blocks so far

I have been enjoying getting little parcels every now and then with blocks for me. My turn in the QCA Bee 2 was January and a couple of blocks are still to come but this the ones I have so far.

Blocks Galore!

Hi all,

I have been busy making lots of blocks….it is a pity a block is not classed as a finish for OPAM!

Arrowheads

Block 17 of the HFWYG? QAL is called Arrowheads…The tute is here.

Tippencanoe

Block 11 of the QAL is Tippencanoe which is 4 foundation pieced 5” blocks….so cute! The tute for these is here.

Sept bee blocks

These are the blocks for the QCA Bee hive 2…September. I loved using some of my Spring Street stash for these!

October bee blocks

October. The blocks from this month will make one loud quilt I think!

Nov bee blocks

And November. These are big Polaroid blocks. Great for fussy cutting!

That is the Bee up to date now! And I only have two more blocks for the QAL to do – Crazy Ann and Pinwheel Skew. I have made the last block, just have to write the tutorial. It is really the Crazy Ann block without the Crazy….I hope that is okay, I didn’t realise they were so similar until I started working on the Crazy Ann blocks this morning.

Quilt Club…

Hi everyone,

There is a group on facebook called Quilt Club Australia, it is a virtual community of Aussie quilters that chat, share, encourage and do bees and swaps!

I am in Bee hive 2 and this my block for Tracey for June….

QCA Bee 2 June Block

I tried fussy cutting and it looked perfect before I pieced it….anyway it looks great with the other blocks.

Recently the group had a Handmade Swap. And I made a sewing caddy for Tracey

P1020678

There was a pair of stork scissors that went in the caddy too.

P1020677

I used some Ruby and some Make Life… I especially love the twill tape measure!

And I got this awesome package from Marieka…

P1020847

She got me so well! My fav block, my fav colours and chocolates!!! There is a cushion cover and a zipper pouch, which I have already been using to keep some hand sewing together! Thank you Marieka, I love it!

And then there is the Novelty Fabric Swap…

We are swapping 5” squares of novelty fabric, I am hoping I might be able to make an I Spy quilt for the boys.

Novelty Fabric Swap

These are my fabrics – the Monkeys are an Ann Kellie print and the Trains are from my stash and I can’t remember the details.

Lastly, I think LOL! Is Sasha – The Travelling Stash!

Sasha on arrival

This amazing amount of stashy goodness fits in a 3kg post satchel!

Sasha Out and In

What I took out is on the left and what I put in is on the right….I had to put in a pack of of the Clover Quilting Clips, they are one of my fav stash items!

So, there you have some of the great things you can do on Facebook!

What a weekend!

Hi Everyone!

It has been a great weekend for sewing! It rained all day yesterday…..which drove the boys insane but I loved it!

P1020586

I got to quilt a quilt on the short-arm! So exciting!

I love how it turned out…I prepared the binding today so hopefully I will have some pics to show you soon!

Colour wheel star 1

The blocks for April in the QCA Bee are colour wheel stars!

Colour wheel star 2

I made two because I had a fat 1/4 of the background fabric so I thought I might as well use it up! I hope you like them Sue!

Ummm, what else…I can hear the boys messing around in the bath and they are making me not be able to think about anything other than the water I will have to clean up…maybe I should make them do it!

P1020577

I know the photo is wonky but just to tease you - I made Apple and Raspberry Pie from scratch! Yes even the pastry!

And it was delish!

Sewing Stars!

Hi everyone!

This weekend has been a great weekend for sewing! The boys have been hanging out with their Aunt and Grandma a lot which has given me some quiet time….Awesome!

And for some reason when Hubby isn’t here I get soooo much more stuff done! For example yesterday I had swept and mopped the floors, done the dishwasher, started the clothes washer and was ready to sew by about 9am….that is unbelievable!

So on Friday I was sitting looking at my sewing stuff thinking “I am so frustrated because I want to sew quilts but I get caught up making little things” so I started a quilt that has been waiting for some lovin’ for months…

DSCF2472

The book is Sarah Fielke’s Quilting From Little Things. This box of fabric has been tucked away for ages so it was great untying the jelly roll and getting started!

That was Friday and this is where I am at today as of about 1pm…

DSCF2489

It is kinda hard to see but there are 11 full stars and 2 half stars here all done! Yay!

DSCF2496

One jelly roll wasn’t enough so I added 20 more strips from my stash….makes it a bit more scrappy!

Did you know Kate Spain’s selvages say “For Personal Use Only”….so does that mean I can’t use the scraps in my notebook covers? And what if I wanted to sell the quilt when it is finished? Found this out over here – Leah has written an awesome post on copyright, well worth a read!

BTW….don’t the tiles look great?! So much more cleaner looking!

I stopped working on the quilt so that I could get some looong overdue bee blocks done.

Feb blocks QCA bee 2

These are Waverlee’s for February in the QCA Bee #2. Can you tell I am desperate for a new camera? This one is taking shocking photos.

Seems I am a bit of a chatter box today!

Swaps and Bees

Hi all,

So far this year I have only joined in on one swap and now I have joined a bee…

This is the results of the Name Game Swap -

DSCF2261

This is the quilt I made for my partner who blogs at Piecing Light. I got the plus design from the Modern Blocks book and just extended it to the size I wanted.

DSCF2264

The letters are raw edge applique and the font is my new fav “Cafe Rojo”. I used it on the eyechart mini too.

This is the quilt I got -

DSCF2362

Made for me by Marissa in Florida USA – no blog that I know of. Very exciting getting a parcel from overseas!

I joined a Bee with a facebook Aussie quilting group, there are a few girls I already know (via blogging) so I already feel at home!

DSCF2364

This dresden plate is for Jane. Jane is going to put the plates on the backing fabric herself and finish the middle circle too! I can’t wait to see this quilt finished!

I have a few other things to show you but I am waiting for the rain to go away so I can get some decent photos!

Some quick sewing!

Hi all,

Believe it or not I haven’t turned my sewing machine on for nearly a week! What the?!

But when I saw the tutorial for a “Bapron” over at The House on the Side of the Hill….it is sooo cute!

The tutorial is done by Jess at Craftiness is not Optional. They are so sweet and very easy to make!

My SIL is due to have a baby in about a month so when I saw these I knew what to do – make some of them of course! The pink one is from Cape Ann fabric and the blue one is some Organic fabric. Lined with pale blue flannelette.

This is the last blocks for the Bee in Oz for 2011 -

It is called Drunk Love and should make a beautiful quilt.

I don’t know if we are doing the Bee again this year so I have signed up to do Just Takes 2!

justtakes2logo1
Which has just started today so you need to get in quick! Click on the picture for the link to the webpage.

And lastly – I will announce the winner for giveaway 1 on Wednesday so if you haven’t entered yet now is your chance!

Playtime!

Hi all,

Since it is November already….were is the year going?….I thought I’d better get my block done for October in the Bee in Oz.

November 2011 002

This is so nice and bright. Linda is making these 16” blocks into quilts for charity.

November 2011 005

This block is for a sampler quilt I am making from Where the Wind Blows fabric. The pattern for this one is from Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks magazine volume 2.

November 2011 007

This one for for the same quilt, and the pattern is from Quiltmaker’s 100 blocks magazine Volume 3.

I have also been working on my Colour Block Placemats and Napkins…

November 2011 008

This is the Napkins. I am using DS Quilts fabric for everything except the white, which is from the Sunkissed range.

November 2011 012

Now I need to get to work on the placemats.

And finally, yesterday mum and I had a bit of a sewing day.

November 2011 015

I made pyjama’s. I used a bit of left over knit from making baby things when TP was born 6 years ago. It has embroidered teddies on it. And finished off the cotton pants with some ric-rac.

Mum worked on a dress for me that I cut out a while ago but my machine refused to sew the fabric….her’s had no problem with the fabric so obviously it is my machine – very frustrating. Anyway, I will model the dress when it is finished…..I don’t know if you should look forward to that! haha

Bee Blocks

Hi all,

I have a problem….I get beautiful fabric, that I love to look at, love to touch and match it up with other fabric but when it comes to cutting it – boy do I have trouble! Usually I put it back away because I am scared of ruining it or using it for the wrong project….crazy!

This is one such piece – it is a gorgeous Kaffe print. Fortunately or unfortunately, not sure which, It isn’t my fabric so it had to be cut up!

This is what became of it – a Mod Mosaic block for September in the Bee in Oz. It looks really cool with the black and white sashing!

I have also been making extra blocks to go with the blocks that the girls from the Bee made for me…

This is a circle of wonky stars, I love this block and knew if I didn’t make it for this quilt I would really be kicking myself later.

I got the inspiration for this from a block on Flickr and made it up as I went along.

This was made with two smaller stars made by on of the girls in the bee, I wanted a 12x12 block so I filled it out a bit!

I love the little astronaut hiding in the little star! I have the blocks sewn together, 3 across and 5 down, I am really undecided if this is going to be big enough. I will be adding borders. Um, Um, Um….yes, no, maybe….I don’t know!

And because you are probably sick of looking at wonky stars I will show you some new life…

That is a baby goose, hatched yesterday! And see those eggs, well they hatched today. We have six babies! And one more that is hatching…we saw its beak sticking out the egg!  Hopefully I will have some better pictures to share soon.
